The MCCB is the device that decides what a panel can take. It sits at the incoming, at the major feeders, at the sub-mains, and its trip characteristic determines how the entire downstream installation behaves under fault, overload and motor-start conditions. In a hospital, a factory floor, an IT facility, a retail mall, the MCCB on the main is the device the design engineer signs against.

Hager h3+ is the current-generation MCCB family for the Indian market, compact frame size, integrated electronic trip units with LSI and LSIG protection, optional energy measurement and communication, and a frame ladder that covers 25 A residential mains through 630 A industrial sub-mains. Shreetuvis is an Authorised Channel Partner stocking the h3+ range across the rating envelope.

Range

Three frame sizes, two trip technologies, every common LV panel main.

The h3+ family is organised by frame size. P160 covers 25 – 160 A, P250 covers 100 – 250 A, P400 covers 250 – 400 A, with higher frames available up to 630 A. Frame size, trip technology and pole configuration together set the specification.

FRAME / 01

P160: 25 to 160 A

The compact frame for small-panel mains and feeder duty. Residential township DB-room mains, retail outlet incoming, hospital sub-distribution mains, small commercial fit-out main switch.

FRAME / 02

P250: 100 to 250 A

Mid-frame mains for substantial commercial and industrial panels. 200 A retail-mall feeder, 250 A hotel main, mid-size factory sub-main, the MCCB feeding an Aptis+ MCCB-enclosure DB.

FRAME / 03

P400: 250 to 400 A (and beyond)

The large-frame MCCB for plant-level mains. Industrial main panel incoming, larger transformer LV-side breaker, a 33/11 kV substation outgoing LT feeder, large mall HVAC sub-main. Higher frames extend to 630 A for the largest panels.

TRIP / 04

Thermal-Magnetic (TM) trip

Fixed-setting magnetic and thermal release. The traditional MCCB, robust, simple to specify, well-understood by site electricians. The cost-effective choice where the trip settings are known at design stage and don't need to change.

TRIP / 05

Electronic LSI / LSIG trip

Long-time, Short-time, Instantaneous, and optionally Ground-fault, all adjustable settings on a microprocessor trip unit. Choose this when the panel needs selectivity flexibility, future-load headroom, or earth-fault discrimination.

Breaking capacity: 25 kA to 110 kA

h3+ comes in three breaking-capacity tiers, 25 kA for residential and small-commercial, 50 kA for typical commercial mains, up to 110 kA close to the transformer or where fault currents are calculated high. Specify the tier against the available fault current at the MCCB's installed position.

Picking an h3+ MCCB for a panel.

Four coordinates set the MCCB specification, frame size, current rating within the frame, breaking capacity, trip technology. Frame is set by the panel's incoming or feeder rating. Breaking capacity is set by the fault current available at the device's installed position (a calculated number, the higher you go up the distribution tree, the higher the kA tier needs to be). Trip technology is set by the panel's protection-coordination requirement, fixed thermal-magnetic where settings don't need to move, electronic LSI / LSIG where they do.

Hager publishes the full selection tables, time-current curves, let-through I²t energy curves and selectivity tables for the h3+ family. These are the engineering references that decide whether a downstream MCB clears its fault before the upstream h3+ trips, and they are available through the authorised channel when a panel-design engineer needs them.

Where h3+ MCCBs go in

Future-proofing with the electronic trip

The electronic LSI / LSIG variant is the choice when the panel's load schedule is expected to change, initial occupancy is 60 percent, full occupancy six months out, expansion at year three. Trip settings can be tuned without swapping the MCCB. Some variants offer integrated energy measurement and communication for facility-management integration. The hardware ages well; the settings move with the building.
