The isolator is the small device with a large responsibility. It gives an electrician a guaranteed dead bus to work on. The changeover is its companion, the switch that moves the building's load between the mains supply and a DG-set when the grid drops, and back again when it returns. Both are simple devices that decide whether maintenance happens safely and whether the building keeps running through a power cut.
Hager builds both for the Indian market, manual changeover switches with double-break-per-pole construction for safe isolation at the zero position, and isolating switches in the modular protection-device range for DB-level isolation. Shreetuvis is an Authorised Channel Partner stocking the range across the 63 A to 1600 A rating envelope.
Pick by device type (changeover or isolator), pick by current rating and pole configuration, and the rest is double-break-per-pole construction, AC23 rating, and a safe zero-position isolation that the Indian Electricity Rules will accept on a maintenance permit.
Three-position switch (Mains, OFF, Generator) with double-break per pole. The standard solution for DG-mains transfer in residential townships, small commercial buildings, hospital DG panels and industrial back-up schemes where automatic transfer isn't required.
DB-level isolation in the modular form factor, the switch you operate to take the downstream DB or sub-DB out of circuit for safe maintenance. Voltage-free stable-position contacts, on-load switching capability, modular slot in any standard DB.
A complete ladder. 63 A and 100 A for small-building DG changeovers, 125 A and 160 A for typical residential township DG transfer, 250 A through 630 A for commercial and industrial DG panels, 800 A through 1600 A for large-plant mains-DG transfer.
1-pole isolators for single-circuit isolation, 2-pole for line-and-neutral isolation on small single-phase loads, 4-pole changeover for three-phase plus neutral transfer (the standard for any TPN DG transfer where the neutral must switch with the phases).
AC23 is the utilisation category for switches that can make and break inductive AC loads, motors, ballasted lighting, transformer primaries. The rating that distinguishes a switch from a disconnector. Hager's manual changeovers carry it across the rating ladder.
Double-break-per-pole construction provides visible isolation at the zero position. Lockable-OFF handles allow maintenance permits to padlock the switch open for the duration of the work. Voltage-free stable-position contacts on the modular range eliminate accidental energisation during permit work.
Power-cut events are routine across most of central India, minutes to hours, several times a month in some areas. A residential township, a hospital, a hotel, a factory, an IT facility, each needs a DG set ready to pick up the load when the grid drops. The manual changeover switch is the device that moves the building's load between the mains supply and the generator output safely, without back-feeding into the grid (which can electrocute a lineman) and without paralleling two sources (which can damage both).
Hager's manual changeover comes in four-pole TPN configurations for the standard three-phase DG application, in two-pole configurations for single-phase residential schemes, and in the rating ladder from 63 A for a small house to 1600 A for a plant-room transfer. Specify the rating against the total building load on the DG-side, then choose the AC23 variant if motors or compressors are on the changed-over loads.
Before any work on the downstream installation, the isolator is opened, locked off, and the lockout key goes into the maintenance-permit envelope. Voltage tests are taken on the load side to confirm the bus is dead. The DIN-rail isolating switch is what gives the electrician that guaranteed dead bus inside a DB; the larger-frame isolating switch does the same job at sub-main and main switchboard level.
