The MCB is the device that decides whether a fault becomes an incident. It sits in the DB, watches the circuit, and trips cleanly when the current goes where it shouldn’t. Every protective scheme in a low-voltage installation (lighting circuits, socket outlets, AC points, motor starters, sub-distribution feeders) ultimately rests on the MCB at the end of that protective chain.

Hager India manufactures MCBs at its Pune facility, two production lines, an all-women production workforce of 150, and a Bureau of Indian Standards-benchmarked process. The MCBs that come off that floor are designed in Germany, built in Maharashtra, and certified to IS 8828. Shreetuvis is an Authorised Channel Partner in Nagpur, stocking the range across the full 6 A to 63 A rating envelope and the standard pole configurations.

Range

Six MCB families. One range table covers every common LV circuit in an Indian installation.

Hager MCBs are specified by three coordinates: current rating, pole configuration, and curve type. The matrix below names where each combination fits in a typical installation.

RATING / 01

Current rating: 6 A to 63 A

The full Indian-installation ladder. 6 A and 10 A for lighting circuits, 16 A for socket outlets and small loads, 20 A and 25 A for AC and geyser circuits, 32 A and 40 A for sub-distribution, 50 A and 63 A for incoming MCBs on smaller DBs.

POLE / 02

Pole configuration: 1P · 2P · 3P · 4P

Single-pole for residential phase circuits, single-pole-plus-neutral for the line and neutral together, three-pole for three-phase loads, four-pole for three-phase plus neutral incoming MCBs and motor circuits.

CURVE / 03

Curve type: B / C / D

B curve (3–5 × In) for resistive loads, lighting, heaters. C curve (5–10 × In) for general circuits with mild inrush. D curve (10–20 × In) for motor circuits, transformer primaries, capacitive loads where inrush is high.

Breaking capacity: 10 kA standard

The standard Hager MCB is rated 10 kA, the fault current it can interrupt without welding contacts or rupturing. 6 kA variants exist for smaller DBs in known low-fault residential applications.

Specialised MCB variants

Hager India also offers MCBs rated for DC-circuit protection (solar PV strings), EV-charging system protection, and the X-rated fluorescent-load variant that does not need derating for high-inrush inductive loads.

Picking the right MCB for the circuit.

The MCB rating is set by the cable that follows it, not the load that sits beyond. A 4 sq mm cable suits a 25 A MCB; a 2.5 sq mm cable suits a 20 A. The curve type depends on the load profile, a B curve trips faster on a small overload, useful for lighting where inrush is negligible; a C curve has headroom for the start-up surge of fans, ACs and small motors; a D curve gives the largest inrush headroom for direct-on-line motor circuits and transformer primaries.

The breaking capacity is set by the available fault current at the MCB's installed position. Close to the transformer or upstream MCCB, 10 kA is the safe specification; deep in residential sub-distribution, 6 kA may suffice. Hager India publishes detailed selection tables and the I²t let-through curves for each rating in the catalogue, available through the authorised channel.
